Subject: Three ways
Dear friends with eager hearts:
If you are interested in knowing more about deserving Russian charities,
you might want to check out "Maria's Children" http://ad.yandex.ru/maria/
(For now it is only in Russian). Maria Yeliseeva, 929-1311, pager 961-3333

"Maria's Children" is an Art Rehabilitation Center for orphans with
learning disabilities. The main objective of the center is to provide
social and psychological rehabilitation for orphaned children. With art
therapy and training, they offer an atmosphere where children can
recognize their creative potential and learn vocational skills useful for
everyday existence. Properly educated, they believe they can improve the
chances of the children for successful integration into society. (This is
paraphrased from their brochure, but from personal experience, I can say
that the place is unique and uplifting.)
If you are interested in helping out, here are three ways.
1) Buy holiday greeting cards -
The center is selling lovely christmas cards with the children's artwork
(similar to the work you will see on the website). If you are interested
in purchasing, in any quantity, please call them. Additionally, if you
will be hosting seasonal parties at which your guests might be interested
in purchasing holiday greeting cards, invite Katia from the Center to bring
some cards to sell.
Please contact:
Katia Arutseva 250-0789 (speaks English and Russian)
2) Donate a few hours of your driver's time -
There are several orphanages around the city with whom the center works,
but there are few opportunities for these children to get to the center.
If you could spare your driver for just a couple hours month during the
studio sessions, to bring disabled children to and from these sessions, you
could make a big difference in the lives of these youngsters and it
wouldn't cost anyone much of anything.

3) Assist with an English version of the website -
For those of you with web and language skills, you could help create an
English version by which people could see and perhaps order greeting cards
directly from the Web (although they would still have to pay, probably, in
cash upon delivery.)

Many thanks and best wishes in the upcoming holiday season.
