IREX Wins Regional Scholar Exchange Program
Washington, DC--The International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX)
is pleased to announce the acquisition of the two-year, $1.6 million
Regional Scholar Exchange Program (RSEP), adding to IREX's academia
and research portfolio.
RSEP develops higher education and scholarship in the New Independent
States (NIS) and United States by providing opportunities for junior
and mid-level university faculty, researchers, scholars, and PhD
candidates in the social sciences and humanities to conduct
independent research at US and NIS institutions in fields relevant to
the political, economic, social, legal, educational, and
philosophical challenges currently facing them. IREX will recruit and
select 112 NIS and 10 US fellows through a competitive, merit-based
process. For a selected number of the Russia and Ukraine fellowships,
IREX will be collaborating with the Kennan Institute for Advanced
Russian Studies at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for
Scholars.
In the short term, the program will enable NIS and US scholars to use
valuable on-site resources to conduct independent research and will
enrich the academic environments of the host institutions. In the
long term, the program will increase US-NIS collaboration and will
strengthen NIS scholarship and higher education in the social
sciences and humanities as well as US understanding of the social,
political, economic, and cultural transitions underway in the NIS
today.
