ABOUT IREX: IREX is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to the
advancement of knowledge. Central to its mission is the empowering of
individuals and institutions to participate meaningfully in civil society.
IREX administers programs between the United States and Eastern Europe, the
New Independent States (NIS), Asia, and the Near East.
SUMMARY OF POSITION: IREX, a nonprofit in international education and
training, seeks 2 candidates for Regional Coordinator to be included in a
proposal submission to the US State Department Bureau of Educational and
Cultural Affairs (ECA). The Regional Coordinators will be responsible for
carrying out the activities of the ECA-funded School Connectivity Project
for Southeast Europe. Candidates considered for this position will be
citizens of one of the following participating countries: Albania,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, and Romania. The School
Connectivity for Southeast Europe project aims to generate cross border
dialogue among students in Southeast Europe and the United States through a
network of Internet access centers located in secondary schools throughout
the 6 participating countries.
The Regional Coordinators will be based in a Balkan city to be determined
with substantial travel to other countries in the region.
JOB DESCRIPTION: These positions require substantive experience in
coordinating the activities of various institutions and individuals within
the context of an international assistance program. Successful applicants
will also have substantial knowledge in utilizing Internet technology as an
educational and training tool. The start date of these positions is on or
about February 15, 2002
The Regional Coordinators will be responsible for:
� Implementing an outreach and publicity campaign to advertise the
project;
� Conducting a competitive and transparent selection process to enroll
secondary schools as active participants in the project;
� Serving as the primary contact person for teachers and
administrators located at participating secondary schools in terms of
coordinating trainings, conferences, and troubleshooting technology
issues;
� Assisting in the development and delivery of computer training
courses and specialized training modules;
� Coordinating project activities with field and DC staff as well as
local and international organizations involved in Internet and
educational development;
� Coordinating the work of secondary schools in ensuring program
sustainability and;
� Conducting mid and final program evaluations, and providing regular
financial and program reports to the DC office
QUALIFICATIONS:
� Three-four years experience working on international assistance and
development programs; minimum of one year of project management
experience;
� An understanding of LAN architecture and hardware;
� Fluency in English;
� Experience in using the Internet and integrating information
technology resources into educational settings;
� Familiarity with international youth education projects preferred;
� Demonstrated ability to work independently;
� Well-organized, skilled at handling multiple tasks, detail-oriented;
