Russian Far East Program Communications Internship Opportunity
The Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) has an exciting opportunity
for a Russian-speaking graduate student or recent graduate interested in
gaining overseas experience in international development. ISC is currently
seeking an intern for its Khabarovsk office to work in its communications
department on program outreach and performance stories. The internship will
last for two months, with the possibility of extending an additional one to
two months.
ISC is a Vermont-based non-profit international development organization
with overseas offices located in Moscow, Khabarovsk, Kyiv, and Skopje. The
Russian Far East office in Khabarovsk is implementing the USAID-funded
Russian Far East Civic Initiatives Program (CIP). The primary objective of
CIP is to motivate citizens in the Russian Far East to work together with
NGOs, local government representatives, and businesses to identify local
needs and collaborate on achieving real community improvements. The intern
will work with CIP staff members to design and implement new strategies to
promote the program and its opportunities, collect program performance
stories from grantees and community participants, write and compile content
for the CIP journal and website, and draft articles for local newspapers and
other media outlets.
The ideal candidate will possess:
*strong Russian language skills and verbal communication ability,
*excellent written and spoken skills in English,
*experience in journalism or with other media
*previous overseas travel or study experience;
*well-developed cultural sensitivity awareness;
*familiarity with civil society issues in the Russian, post-Soviet context,
*a significant sense of adventure.
ISC will provide visa support (including visa expenses), round-trip airfare
to Khabarovsk, and a monthly cost-of-living stipend that will cover
anticipated costs of room and board in Khabarovsk. All work-related
expenses for travel within the Russian Far East will also be covered by ISC.
Interested applicants should send a letter of interest, current CV, and
writing sample via email to:
