                      Program Coordinator
     Public Interest Law Initiative in Transitional Societies

Reporting to the Director of the Public Interest Law Initiative in
Transitional Societies (PILI), the Program Coordinator will be responsible
primarily for the coordination of study/internship programs as well as other
selected projects. PILI assists the development of strong public interest law
communities in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia through
publications, electronic resources, meetings and capacity-building programs.
For example, PILI organizes a Public Interest Law Fellows program and a
Disability Rights Fellows program for young lawyers who come to Columbia from
Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia. PILI also coordinates the
internships of Columbia law students who participate in Columbia�s Human
Rights Internship Program by spending their summers working for non-
governmental organizations in Central and Eastern Europe and Russia.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Coordinates the selection process for Public Interest Law Fellows and
Disability Rights Fellows as well as Columbia interns seeking PILI placements
through the Human Rights Internship Program.

* Organizes the training program for PILI interns participating in the Human
Rights Internship Program.

* Maintains contact with all Fellows, arranges travel for Fellows, provides
orientation to them when they arrive, and interfaces with Columbia
administrative offices on their behalf. Coordinates internship placements and
organizes Spring research retreat for Fellows.

* Coordinates the work of student Research Fellows and Interns assisting PILI
and responds to student requests for information.

* Organizes on-campus PILI receptions, brownbags and other events.

* Coordinates other PILI programs as assigned.

* Acts as a liaison with other organizations and institutes at Columbia
relating to public interest law and the region of Central and Eastern Europe,
Russia and Central Asia.

* Responds to requests for assistance coming from members of PILI�s network
of partner organizations and individuals working on public interest law in
Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelors degree required. Excellent interpersonal, administrative and
computer skills required. Excellent English language writing skills required.
 Must be exceptionally organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to
manage multiple tasks in a short deadline environment. Previous office
experience strongly preferred. Knowledge of additional, relevant languages
and/or work experience in the region desirable.
