A Year-End Gift?

CivilSoc, the e-mail information service provided by Center for Civil
Society International, now goes to 1,400 subscribers in more than 40
countries around the world. We estimate that 20 percent or more of our
subscribers are citizens of "post-Soviet" countries.

If you have suscribed to CivilSoc for some time and value the service it
offers, please consider a year-end 1998 gift to Center for Civil Society
International (CCSI) to help CivilSoc keep growing and improving in 1999.

There are four ways (at least) that you can give--and there is a form at
the bottom of this message that you can return to us by e-mail.

The four (4) ways are:

1. A cash donation to "CCSI" in any amount would be greatly appreciated:
$10, $25, $50 and more.

If you pay U.S. taxes and itemize your deductions, your gift will be
tax-deductible. Please make your check payable to "CCSI," mark it "for
CivilSoc," and mail it to the address below.

2. If you own appreciated stock, it is very simple to transfer that stock
to CCSI. We have an account with the firm of Ragen MacKenzie in Seattle.
Their telephone number is (206) 343-5000 and we would be happy to provide
you with our account number, if you call or e-mail us.

As you probably know, you pay no capital gains on appreciated stock that
is donated to a tax-exempt 501(c)3 organization such as CCSI, and you can
deduct from your taxes the value of the stock at the time of the donation.
Call us for more information if this is a possibility.

3. Consider a gift-in-kind. For example, a subscription to a periodical, a
piece of software, etc.

4. Send us a message with your opinion about CivilSoc and any ideas you
have for improving it. When asking foundations for grants to help support
CivilSoc, it always helps to provide evidence that people value it. You
can provide that evidence either through a donation of your own, or by
sending us a message telling us how much you value it.

As you know, we do not clutter CivilSoc with fund-raising pitches or CCSI
propaganda. But some financial support is esssential if we are to continue
to provide the service that CivilSoc represents. So please take a moment
to complete the CivilSoc Response Form below and return it to us as soon
as possible.
